Year 5

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Year five have had a fantastic start to the year! We thank each and every student for their hard work.

Students have received their timetable and homework schedules. Well done to all students who have been completing homework in a timely manner. Students are encouraged to use their diary to help them stay organised throughout the year.

In English, students have been working on writing some interesting stories as part of our narrative unit. Students had a chance to practise using figurative language to enhance their narratives.

In Maths, we worked on place value, written and mental strategies of addition and subtraction, comparing fractions, addition and subtraction of fractions and 2D shapes. The Oxford Maths student workbook and Oxford Maths homework book work hand-in-hand. Therefore, students are able to practise similar questions to what they learnt in the classroom. Students are encouraged to ask their teacher if there are any questions which they need assistance in.

Year 5 students will be taking part in NAPLAN this year and the test will be completed on paper. The dates are Tuesday 11th May, Wednesday 12th May and Thursday 13th May 2021. However, Thursday 13th May happens to coincide with Eid al-Fitr and our College will be closed on 13th & 14th May. After consultation with the relevant authorities, students will be provided Monday 17th May to undertake any catch-up tests that they may have missed as a result of campus closure on the 13th.
